Normal times, but excitement coming up

Time for a new post! Not much really new around here... just work and school... the little time I have to prepare meals, I just make something I've made in the past that'll last me a week or so, like the Pioneer Woman's Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce, which I've probably posted about in the past. It's really a great sauce. It tastes like it came from a restaurant, but you can make it right at home with some tomato sauce, heavy cream, olive oil, butter and garlic-- in approximately the opposite order of that list, haha.

Anyway, something exciting is coming up in a few weeks! You know how I love New Orleans, well, a city near me called Campbell is having a New Orleans style festival that takes place every year. There will be plenty of Cajun/Creole food, a brass band and other music, arts and crafts, and more.

Some of my coworkers and I are going to try to go together. It will be my very first festival ever in the bay area, I think. I did go to the anime convention in San Jose a couple times, but that's a little different from a festival.

So, you can definitely look forward to a post about that. :)

  1. Hi Jen!

"Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce" what a great recipe, I will certainly save this, and I guaranty I will try it out . Thank you! It sounds so easy and delish! "No muss, no fuss pasta dishes", is right up my alley. You know I am not a huge fan of straight tomato sauces... too acidic, within my likings. Well, stewed tomatoes either just way too mushy for me. Like you with cooked onions, it may be the texture... so many pasta sauces are a huge disappointment to me. I have not caught this in your previous posts, thanks for bringing it back!

Since crossing paths with you, California sounds so exciting and now with a CAJUN twist.. Formidable ou bien Magnifique! I cannot wait to read your upcoming post!

Hope you have a fabulous weekend and Al too!

All the best from southwestern Ontario Canada!

    Adieu mes amis!

    1. Yes, it's got such a velvety texture, not at all acidic or plain like other tomato sauces. I think what I did is I mentioned a similar pasta recipe in the past, also made by the Pioneer Woman, except it was vodka cream.

Have a great weekend Meesh! :)

  2. Foremost I thoroughly enjoy what you post, yes it's an Epic Treat. Gosh I would love to enjoy two sunny days of arts, crafts, entertainment, shopping, food, and community, as advertised within the "Boogie On The Bayou". I am within the eastern coast , I would so much be able to travel west and a bit down south. But within your posts, as I said you manage to capture the spirit! Merci beaucoup!

  3. Hmmm apparently, you have never visited Canada, it is MUCH bigger than California where I would LOVE to visit. Canada is vast, second to Russia in the world, I am not bragging but I could never offer you what goes on here. We're 10 provinces and three territories. I have been to Michigan, Illinois, Ohio and that's it..I have 47 other states of the USA to discover, yours will be next on my list!

  4. Oh, I see. I don't really know anything about Canada... except it's cold.. and big.. and the people there are really nice.. and there is wilderness.. evidently I need to do a little research :)

Don't feel bad I have yet to explore my "own" country, I am bad. I have only been to 4 provinces so far. Yes that's it. How many states have you had the pleasure to visit in your country?

    1. In Ontario (where I Live) especially Southwestern Ontario , it's Americanized and NO WILDERNESS, sweetie. except crazy squirrels (black/grey/red breeds), muskrats, deers, a moose or two and some beavers also...OOPS! is this what you were referring to?

Despite that.. Please come over, I will assure you, we absolutely do not live in igloos :)

    2. States in my country... Arizona, Nevada, Louisiana, Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C., Utah, Hawaii, and some stops in airports in Texas, and a few others I don't really remember because just stopping in an airport doesn't really count.

    3. When I said wilderness I guess I was just picturing the whole "mountie" thing, I mean the men in the red jackets. No offense intended, I'm sure Canada is a lovely place :). It must be kind of fun or interesting to have so many animals around. All we really have here in San Jose are a bunch of birds, and a couple cats who wander around the yard.

    4. Jen,

OOps I forgot about skunks, chipmunks, raccoons, wolves.... lots of road kill here... other provinces have many, many other animals.

The mounties (RCMP) is our National force of police, every day they do not dress in the red outfits they look like regular police and drive in squad cars. Now the "Review Order" (the red outfits) are worn by the mounted troop performing the "Musical Ride", it's an equestrian drill in which mounted members demonstrate their riding skills and handling pertaining to cavalry. Horses are still used for such ceremonial operations as escorting the Governor General's open landau to the Opening of Parliament.

The Mounties (RCMP) do not provide provincial or municipal policing in either my province Ontario or in Quebec either. Both most popular provinces maintain our own provincial forces; the Ontario Provincial (OPP)and in Quebec it's Police and Sûreté du Québec. The other eight provinces, however, have chosen to contract most or all of their provincial policing responsibilities to the Mounties RCMP. I only see the RCMP when they are around for some federal issues, drug busts etc. the cruisers come around....it's not very often.

    5. Okay, yeah, I was thinking of the ones on horses. I wouldn't expect all the mounties to go around on horses all the time though. Just for ceremonies like you said. :)

      Thanks for the lesson!

  6. Hey Jen!

Happy I finally managed to get online today because you and Meesh have opened a whole new world to discover--geographically speaking--quite the world travelers you guys. Hahaha @ your sentiments about an airport stop doesn't really count--cute.

Sounds like a sense of adventure awaits you in Campbell--happy for you, and will hold you to your promise to post here afterwards so we can get a glimpse into yet another of your festive experience.

Hope you guys are having a great week. Enjoy your day....Oh, one more thing, have to ask: first, excuse me, have to wait until I'm done blushing--dang...anyway, doing Campbell's event you don't think they would dare have a "Bourbon Street" atmosphere?

    1. Hi Al :). Nice to see you.

As for the atmosphere at the festival, I'm not really sure. There are supposed to be tens of thousands of people attending within the two days when it will be held. There are also children's activities so I would think it would be pretty family friendly. :)

  7. Hi Jen : )

Good to see you! Good for the event planners to market the event for as many visitors as possible, and, of course, good parenting would suggest that even if there are some hot spots catering exclusively to adults, getting lil' Zoe and lil' Max out & in before these activities begin is the safest way to ensure that Campbell can be a worthwhile experience for every age group.

I trust you'll have your reliable and faithful camera handy...am already excited about feeling a part of the experience while looking your pics over. Any word on any local musicians/bands that may be part of the festivities? Are you and your coworkers staying focused at work amid all the excitement of this upcoming event?

    1. I agree that it's good for the event planners to have a broad audience so there will be something for everyone. I will just take pictures with my phone because my digital camera is kind of big and old, but my phone takes great pictures. Not sure about specific bands playing, but I'm sure they will be great. My coworkers and I are staying pretty focused, they're also excited about going to see a midnight showing of The Avengers.

    2. Hey Jen!

Am excited for you guys :)...

won't matter what you aim when you take your pics because you seem to have a knack for bringing all the elements together for capturing a great moment in time.
Back next week to see what's next on tap here at your Epic Treats...enjoy your day : )
