More San Francisco... and... pie

Here are some more pictures from my friend of when we went to San Francisco!

That tower up there is the Coit Tower. This tower was built in 1933 for Lillie Hitchcock Coit, a volunteer firefighter of San Francisco.

This is the Transamerica Pyramid, the tallest skyscraper of the San Francisco skyline, completed in 1972. Its current tenants are Bank of America Merrill Lynch, ThinkEquity, and TSG Consumer Partners.

This is just a nice view up one of San Francisco's many hills. So many hills.

Here's the pie I baked. Next time I want to try to make one of those pretty lattice type crusts.

I used a great crust recipe from one of my coworkers that didn't even require a food processor, just a pastry cutter.. and this berry filling from Joy of Baking, except I used blueberries, blackberries, boysenberries and strawberries. Can't wait to make another pie for my family when I visit next week... we'll see what kind of fruit I use for that one :).

Tomorrow I'm going to the Obon Festival. I'll let you guys know how it goes! Have a great weekend.

Meant to ask you yesterday: All things considered, what do you like most/best about SF?

    3. Ok I tried to reply with this long detailed comment and it wouldn't post my comment... but, I think my favorite thing about San Francisco is just all the neat little cafes/ restaurants that I get to try when I go there that I have heard are so great from my other blogging friends, like Tartine Bakery. :)

    4. Hey Jen!

Appreciate your earnest/good faith attempt at making a detailed response--cheers, but your short version is just as telling--Thank You!

A gentle SF Bay breeze would be nice here today. Back next week to see what's
next on tap. here at your Epic Treats. Is your trip to Washington, D.C. around your birthday?

    5. It was really warm over here in Santa Maria, but also kind of cold at times too. Not too bad overall. I will be in D.C. during my birthday, which will be great-- I am going from the 9th to the 20th and my birthday is the 13th. :)

    7. Hi Al,
I am doing ok but I seem to have caught a bit of a cough and sore throat. I will just try to take care of myself so I will be healthy for my trip. My favorite cake is probably tiramisu.... maybe Friend and I will find a nice Italian restaurant that will have it :).

  2. Hey Jen!

Sorry to hear about you feeling a tad bit under the weather, but trust that you'll rebound nicely to feeling 100% soon. If I had a few minutes I'd look up your favorite birthday cake--tiramisu--but because I don't, please share either a pic or the ingredients in a follow up comment, so I'll have some idea what it looks/tastes like--Thank You in advance :)

I betting the house, farm and all the marbles that your Friend will treat you to a fine Italian restaurant. Enjoy your day!

Here is a link to a picture of tiramisu. I am not sure how to post pictures in comments but that should take you right to a picture.

From Wikipedia: "Tiramisu ([tiɾamiˈsu], Italian spelling: Tiramisù; lit. "pick me up") is an Italian cake and dessert. It is made of ladyfingers (Italian: Savoiardi) dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of egg yolks and mascarpone cheese, and flavored with liquor and cocoa.[1] The recipe has been adapted into many varieties of puddings, cakes and other desserts."

My Friend and I always used to go to this lovely Italian restaurant called Giuseppe's when we both lived on the central coast. We'll see if we can find a similarly cozy little place in DC. :)

    1. Well, tomorrow I am getting together with a friend in Palo Alto for lunch, so that will be nice. I spent most of today working on a paper, which I was able to finish, so a break tomorrow will be refreshing before I tackle the next project.
