Epic Sandwich

Last weekend a friend and I went to Ike's Place, a sandwich place in the Castro district of San Francisco, near the Mission District. I'd heard this place had amazing sandwiches, and if you just check out their menu, you can see why. My friend and I both thought the Heath Ledger or The Joker sounded like the best choice-- the Heath Ledger (which my friend got) has "Beer Battered Zucchini, Ike's red pesto, Ranch, Vegan Meatballs," (and lettuce and tomato) whereas The Joker (which I got, with the addition of banana peppers) has the same ingredients but all beef meatballs. Want to see a picture?

This is pretty much the best sandwich I've ever had... aside from the Croque Monsieur I got from Tartine Cafe a few weeks ago, which was also amazing.

So, we picked up our sandwiches (and chips and drinks) and went and ate at Dolores Park. It was a pretty nice day out, not too cold or too warm. We sat in a sunny spot but also near trees so we would have access to, as my friend aptly phrased, "theoretical shade." Lots of other people were enjoying the nice weather too so it was neat to people-watch and see all the dogs wandering around. There was even a guy flying a kite!

So, that was really fun. This weekend I think a friend of mine from back home is visiting and we're going to some malls. Happy almost weekend, friends!

  1. Hey, Jen!

Sounds like a really lovely day! Great companionship, a beautiful park, some tasty mmm, mmm good epic treats and plenty of sunshine. So happy for you, and rather than spoil your delightful moment by sharing my region's weather, here's wishing you many more beautiful and sunny days ahead.

Hope you also enjoyed your shopping outing at the malls :) Did you splurge on something nice for yourself?

    1. Hi Al :)
Couldn't help but giggle at your comment about the East Coast weather... from weather.com it sounds kind of cold. Hope you're staying safe and warm as much as possible!

My friend couldn't make it over I guess but I went to the mall on my own yesterday and got some cozy sweaters for work :). It may be sunny and warm during the day but it's very chilly in the office when the AC is blasting.... and pretty cold in the morning, and a bit chilly in the evening too. Just waiting for summer time again.

Have a good week Al & talk to you later!

  2. Hey, Jen!

How are you? Hopefully experiencing lots of sunshine in your day, but not too much so you have to shelf your lovely new sweaters away too soon. Good for you to spread some of your trademark thoughtfulness to others (your housemate(s) and co-workers) back upon your deserving self. Cheers!

Guess what?! The Sun dared to challenge Old Man Winter's seasonal authority, blessing WNY with a couple of gorgeous days this weekend :) Got in some early yardwork on the front lawn, and then treated myself to a hotdog w/the works and a refreshing cold one afterwards. The weather gal on the news says back to colder temps this week, so looks like Old Man Winter has managed to wrestle the seasonal baton back from the Sun, big meany!!! Got a few choice words for 'em, but I'll be good.

So, what's new? Any Spring travel plans in the works? What's the latest epic treat you've created? Hope all is well, with lots of sunshine/happiness in store for you. Have a great week :)

    1. Hi Al :)
This weekend was beautiful, really sunny and warm. Yesterday I went out to lunch with a friend and then we got shave ices in Japantown, and today another friend and I went to San Francisco and had brunch at Bar Tartine, and walked around and browsed the shops in the mission district and went and got some scones at this one bakery. I'm glad you got a bit of nice weather too :).

Starting to think about Spring plans.... might go back to San Francisco next weekend for a Jewish Food Festival, my housemate is making corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's day, we're probably going to some baseball games in April, and in May my friend is coming to visit San Francisco for this running event called Bay to Breakers so I'll probably meet him over there and cheer him on. Haven't really cooked/ baked much lately but tonight I think I'll make some tacos.. this warm weather kind of has me a bit lethargic, just woke up from a nap, haha... might make a salad instead but we'll see :). Have a great week too!

P.S. I don't mind at all about the "weather gal" comment haha :)

    2. Hey, Jen!

Sounds like a splendid weather streak continues for you and your area, really nice compared to Old Man Winter over-staying his seasonal welcome over here, grr. Guess some of us got a lil' spoiled w/the warmth of the sunshine during last weekend's respite. A terrific gal over in Germany said they were still getting snow, so it's not too bad here when one sees what's going on around the world, so it's not like Mother Nature singled out NY or anything.

Hope you enjoyed pleasant temps for your St. Patrick's Day celebration today. How was your housemate's corn beef and cabbage treat? Did you guys take in a parade? My Erin, well, not any more, lived for St. Patrick's Day and all the festive spirit associated with it. Once had to even drink a green beer on one occasion, but she never revealed how she pulled that one off--guess the same way the folks at McDonald's pull off the Shamrock Shake.

A cool, refreshing salad is always an epic treat, especially as the temps climb and the seasonal baton can be snatched out of the grubby hands of Old Man Winter. What's yor favorite salad dressing? Am beginning to ramble old friend, so better stoke the fireplace one last time before heading off to snoozeville. Gr8 sharing w/you. Have a terrific week ahead. Should our paths not cross again electronically before/during Passover, safe travels unto you & yours. Shalom

    3. Hi Al :)
The temperatures are starting to dip a little lower towards 70 and upper 60s over here-- might even rain tomorrow or Wednesday, but that's ok, I suppose it's still been pretty nice. A little chilly in the mornings.

My housemate's corned beef and cabbage was wonderful. He also steamed red potatoes and broccoli so it was a full and colorful meal. I didn't go to any parades but I did walk around in Berkeley with some friends, they've got a bunch of neat little shops over there... book shops, clothing stores, cafes and such. I got a really interesting new book for 50 cents and it's about 550 pages long. How was your St. Patrick's Day?

Speaking of salads, I just happen to be having a salad for lunch tomorrow at work. My favorite dressing changes quite periodically... I really like blue cheese or raspberry vinagerette, it kind of depends on the type of salad. My salad tomorrow has a champagne-something-or-other flavor, coating cabbage, snap peas, carrot slivers, and cucumber.

Thanks for the Passover greetings, I will try to do something to celebrate... maybe make some chocolate covered matzo.

  3. shelf=shelve, and not sure if it's pc to say weather gal instead of meteorologist--no offense just stuck in another time & place is all. Will have to work on that. Take care, Jen :)
