In the spirit of Mardi Gras...

So, last week and this week are the fabulous Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans, Louisiana. I have been lucky enough to visit New Orleans twice in my life, and maybe someday I'll go again. This post will highlight some of my favorite New Orleans food memories, as one of the most memorable things about New Orleans is their delicious food.

You know you're in New Orleans when you see
beautiful building like this in the French Quarter :)

A great New Orleans sampler from Duffy's Diner...
beans and rice, jambalaya, and shrimp creole with some garlic bread.

Refreshing bubblegum and watermelon sno cone from Riverwalk...
perfect for those hot, humid days.
 Pasta Opelousas from Coop's Place..
a delightful blend of linguine, green beans, ham and shrimp.

Chicory coffee from Cafe Du Monde... one of my very best souvenirs.

Bye for now, New Orleans... and happy Mardi Gras!

  1. Hi Jen,

Great Post! "Laissez les bon temps roulez" or Let the good times roll...

I have not been fortunate (yet) to visit The French Quarter in New Orleans on Mardi Gras. The closest celebrations that we do have here because of the many small French communities are "Pancake Suppers" for Shrove Tuesday, Fat Tuesday aka Mardi Gras.

However Tim Horton's coffee shops (that are everywhere here) have the best paczkis.. pronounced "poonskee" ... Local bakeries join in too on "Paczkis Day" they make a big deal too because of Fat Tuesday one last day to indulge before Lent, and the 420 calories each paczkis are flying off their shelves.too...

Have a great Mardi Gras tomorrow!

  2. Sounds like some fun over in your area of the world :)

When I was younger in a larger city nearby there would be a Mardi Gras parade, people would dress up in colorful costumes and throw beads and fake coins out of floats like the "real" Mardi Gras. Then I think they had to stop it because there was too much drunkenness and other mischief. Glad it know it's still alive somewhere though. :)

  3. Hi Jen!

Yesterday while responding to your post over at Meesh's & my blog, I said I would venture over to your site today, and even predicted your latest post would be about something edible with a St. Patrick's Day theme--glad I didn't wager a hugh bet in Vegas, hahaha--forgot all about the Mardi Gras celebrations. An excellent post! Cheers! Have a great week.
